About Us
The Chapter I Literacy Foundation is a nonprofit organization that was founded on the campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia in 2018. The founding members of The Chapter I Literacy Foundation were all first generation Americans and first generation college students who all learned English as a second language. Using their life experiences, the founding members wished to support the next generation of scholars in the state of Virginia.
The organization was created with a goal to promote literacy among students in rural areas, students in of underserved areas, minority students, and English Language Learners
(ELL students). In addition, the organization promotes multilingualism across the state through language tutoring services and immersive cultural events for students.
The organization is currently based in Loudoun County, Virginia with a membership that serves the entire state of Virginia.

Our Mission
The Chapter I Literacy Foundation believes a lifelong love of literacy and language begins in childhood. We encourage this by:
- Providing book donations to families, libraries, and schools
- Tutoring students and families who are learning English as a second language

Volunteering at local libraries and schools
- Hosting literacy-rich events for our communities
- Raising scholarship funds for college students
- Offering opportunities for students to acquire a second language
